<<<In Pennsylvania, many of the private schools are Catholic. But in PA, teachers in public school districts are unionized and are paid by individual school districts. This results in very high pay. It is an illusion that private schools are better because the public schools attract better teachers.>>>>
Very high pay does not always result in quality. My kids are going to Catholic school. The teachers get a much smaller paycheck. BUT, we have quite a number of very high quality teachers. Every single one of them is passionately dedicated to the kids. And I must say that a majority of parents take a very active part in their child's education. This combination makes for an excellent learning environment.
Another reason that they go to Catholic school is because we want them to be educated by people who share our morals (as well as our religious convictions). Here's a good test. Go to your local Board of Ed and ask to see the sex education curriculum that they use for grade schoolers (some even start in kindergarten!).
