<<"Inheritance tax" is paid by a beneficiary on the money he or she has just inherited. If you live in a state that has inheritance tax, and you inherit from someone who lived in a state with estate taxes, I wonder if you are taxed by both states or if that double taxation is illegal >>Good info - the estate gets taxed and then the individual inheriting so they can get away with it without it being officially double taxation. Here's a question : My father died about 20 years ago. I help my mother with her finances now but I have no idea what happened as far as my father's estate. I assume no taxes we paid and my mother inherited all. As long as her estate is under the limit whenever she dies, there's no tax ?Jacki
