<<The system is not the disaster that some people on this board have implied. Extending the retirement age, which makes a lot of sense, would make a huge difference. When the Social Security retirement age was set at 65, life expectancy was barely 70, if I remember my reading on this subject correctly. Now it's in the 77 or so range, and many many more elderly are living even longer, into their 90s. Social Security is supporting these people for 25 years or longer--something it was never designed to do! Therefore, extending the retirement age to 70 ASAP would save a lot.>>You and some others on this board must believe that most Americans WORK AT A DESK IN A NICE AIR CONDITIONEDENVIRONMENT FROM 9-5! If you had a clue, you would realize that many, many people in this country truly WORK for a living in all kinds of adverse conditions around the clock and on weekends. Others have two or more jobs to make ends meet. You know what you can do with your actuarials.--TL
