<<Well, you have almost identified the problem. See, ever since the Jews were kicked out of their country a few thousand years ago, they have been dependent on "the favor" and the "patronage" of various religions, empires, and rulers, in order to survive. The main issue with that is that every few generations, those religions, empires, or rulers hit a pothole and have problems that are almost inevitably blamed on the Jews (and other "minorities" as well). Then the Jews get slaughtered, expelled, or a combination of the two.

Well, let's look at how jews have behaved in Palestine towards their former arab benefactors since they began immigrating there in the past 120 years or so. I would describe the pillaging and dispossession of the Islamic population to be brutal. 1200 years of relative favor and patronage replaced by biting the hand that has favored jews, almost overnight. I wouldn't be surprised if that opportunism is remembered as a good reason for special persecution of jews for the next 1200 years or so.

Of course, Americans immigrating into Texas in the 1830s did pretty much the same thing to Mexico. But if you are going to steal someone's territory, you had better be strong enough to hold it against those who claimed it. The United States has been strong enough to do that ---so far, although demographic trends may produce much the same kind of conflict in reverse before long.

Just facts of political life. Those with power tend to use it.
