<<When I moved to NorCal to take a new job, it took me 3 mos. before I bought condo to live; during those 3 mos. I lived with 89 year old father and looked for permanent living situation. I commuted 80 miles roundtrip from dad's every day. What expenses are deductible during those 3 mos.?>>Virtually none. In the "old" days, pre-move househunting and temporary living expenses were deductible to a certain extent. But under the "new" rules, temporary living expenses are no longer deductible. And commuting expenses are almost never deductible. So I'm afraid that there isn't much (if anything) that you'll be able to use.You can read more about the moving expenses in the Taxes FAQ area. You might also want to check out IRS Publication 521 for additional information on deductible moving expenses.TMF TaxesRoy
