<<When I was in first year at UBC (in Vancouver, for you non-Canadians) we had a guy from the football team living on our floor in residence. He could only name 6 provinces - he almost got Prince Edward Island but guessed "Prince George" instead. Seems that the academic standards aren't quite as strict if you're an athlete (surprise, surprise).>>>>

This is a bit OT for this message string, but reading about UBC reminded me of one of the better travel deals, I've found. On a short notice trip to Vancouver, I booked a night at UBC to avoid the high summer hotel rates. Dirt cheap. Beautiful campus with nice hikes and a great museum. It was a ways from downtown, but a pleasant experience -- although I wouldn't want to do it for more than a few nights.
