<When you say "idle" do you mean the speed that engine runs at when you're sitting still? Or do you mean something else?>

Yes. I mean the rate of the RPMs while the vehicle is still. The needle shifts quite a bit between maybe .5k and 2k RPM--especially when I first turn the car on. It sounds like I'm reving the engine, only, I'm not touching the gas at all.
