'm upfront about this and admit I can't hold a candle to many here who are extremely conversant in the subject, but to this neophytes eyes it looks like Roku would be the least desirable choice of the three.

In the end it really depends on where your content is coming from. I've got a Roku as well as a Chromecast and I think both have their place. The Roku just works, and with the included remote I find that it's much better for people who aren't as computer savvy. The trickiest part for my parents (once the accounts are set up) is changing the input on the TV, but that's the same for every device.

The Chromecast can be finicky at times and I find that using my phone to control streaming is less than perfect. That said, there are times when it's really the only way for me to get certain media onto my TV, things that are online but are not supported by any of the apps that Roku has. I've watched many European sporting events that are streamed live, on-line, but not available otherwise.
