I find it hard to see the rational in the Magnex Scientific Ltd. acquisition. Magnex has for the most part been a 2nd tier player in this market. Their sales are very much smaller than the larger players Bruker and Oxford Instruments (Superconductor Ltd). Magnex's selection of super conducting magnets is limited and they are a small factor in the MRI imaging market. Even of more concern, Magnex does not make its own super conducting wire which is not the case for the larger concerns. The super conducting wire is a very specialized product that is the key to product quality and performance. It is hard to see how any NMR magnet company that does not manufacture its own super conducting wire would be a major player. You can easily check out the big players in this market and see the difference.
