I've heard that a person should balance their 401(k) every year. However, my question is: Would it be okay to constantly keep the account balanced by adjusting the amount of each contribution to the funds in the account so that each fund's balance remains in the proper proportion percentage-wise to the other funds?

When I make my 401(k) contributions online, I can manually select how much money is placed into each individual fund, so this would be easily possible to do.

I'm just wondering if it will have a positive or negative influence on things.
