Will be closing on my first house next Friday. Made all kinds of foolish deals on broker, mortgage, and house. Now I want to keep my foolish streak alive. Can anyone suggest a reference for house maintenance or even a simple schedule so that I protect my purchase and hopefully foolishly avoid high repair costs that can be prevented by simple foolish maintenance? I don't know the first thing about furnaces, water heaters, kitchen appliances, etc. I've gotten much advice from various and sundry people, but some of it is conflicting and I'd like something by someone with some credibility/experience. Thanks.
