Make sure if it is a manual you are unable to start it with the car in gear. Actually that is good advice if it is an automatic as well although most automatics have extra built in safety features that don't allow remote car starters to start them in drive.

I installed one 2 years ago into my Wife's 1992 in good shape car and do not regret it. She plans to keep that car for at least 5 more years it is in perfect shape (well almost).
