Make sure you eat enough during the bike.

True, but it can be a fine line. In 2008 I was so afraid of bonking on the run that I took in too much carbs on the bike (Gu's washed down with Gatorade) and ended up with a case of "Gatorade gut" (distended belly, nothing emptying). I was pretty uncomfortable until I managed to make a couple of pit stops on the run course.

I think that my nutrition the other day was just about right ... although I felt no need to take a "nature break" in over 6 hours in the saddle, and that probably indicates that I should have taken in a bit more fluid.
