Many schools, if not most or all, still require you to fill out the FAFSA even if you are only getting merit based scholarships. No FAFSA, no scholarships.I would recommend asking at the school to see what they require. DS gets a very small amount of merit aid, and his school does not require a FAFSA for him to get that aid. Since the kids didn't get anything last year after I had been out of work for a year, it's not likely they will get anything this year with me back at work, so I will not be doing FAFSAs this year. The only reason I would have done it would have been if it was required for DS to get that merit aid, but I have already asked, and they don't need it.
