Many schools, if not most or all, still require you to fill out the FAFSA even if you are only getting merit based scholarships. No FAFSA, no scholarships.

I would recommend asking at the school to see what they require. DS gets a very small amount of merit aid, and his school does not require a FAFSA for him to get that aid. Since the kids didn't get anything last year after I had been out of work for a year, it's not likely they will get anything this year with me back at work, so I will not be doing FAFSAs this year. The only reason I would have done it would have been if it was required for DS to get that merit aid, but I have already asked, and they don't need it.
