Many years ago when I was in college I bought a cookbook similar to the impoverished student one mentioned. In it was a recipe for "Fake Rarebit" or some such name. It went something like this: Slice a hotdog up, cook it in some butter in a saucepan, pour some beer in the pan, add some cheese, when cheese has melted add a couple eggs. Stir until cooked. Serve over toast. It's quite a bit easier than making a roux (at least in my limited experience). I still make it now and then although nowdays I often leave out the hotdogs and replace the beer with milk.Lael
