Mark Hiatt...Thanks, your post states very well what I was struggling to suggest in my original post that started this thread.

I know it's anecdotal single-observer data, but I continue to be amazed at the sorta mismatch between drivers and the vehicles they're driving here in the DC-area. To my fogey eyes, for example, most Land Cruiser drivers seem to be about the same age as my early-thirties kids. They can't all be knocking down the kinda gross needed to buy an LC outright.

Oh well, as they say over on the FIRE Board (Retire Early Homepage), at least their personal finances will keep them in the workforce longer, making those FICA contributions year after year after...

Good for us early retirees in one respect, though not so hot from a macro viewpoint.
