Market volatility often causes stops to trigger soon after they are placed. That can be due to short term events or even a large order coming to market.

With commissions so low, it is usually no big deal to repurchase after a false trigger, but it can be a hassle. An auto email alert can be more useful. Then you can decide to sell or not.

Get used to the idea that stock prices do not always go up. So don't over react. But if a trend develops against you, it can be wise to take profits and wait to reinvest.

In time you will develop your own style and your own feel for the stocks you own. Then you will have your own answers to your question.
