Marriage is a commitment to GOD in the presence of witnesses. We got married by a justice of the peace (or whatever they call them in Canada). We made a commitment to each other -- there was no mention of any supernatural being. It's so WEIRD to me when atheists get married. What's the point? In our case, it was so DW could get a Green Card quickly. I don't know how long it would have taken to get married absent that incentive. At some point the tax consequences would have made it a good move. And we are still together in spite of the lack of religious trappings, long after 50% of marriages performed in churches have fallen apart. --fleg
