A surprise to me is that I'm likely to buy a "Kirkland" product over branded products, esp. food items, at Costco. Often the Kirkland item is better.

I don't know if you're familiar with Sysco (SYY), but much of their delivered food items carry their own label. And they carry brand name prods. They're the largest publicly traded food delivery company (excluding the grocery chains) but are in a very fragmented market. Here's a profile from Yahoo: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=SYY+Profile Here's the 25-yr. BMWm chart: http://invest.kleinnet.com/bmw1/stats25/SYY.html

It's a very steady performer. I don't own it though, since it's sales growth is tepid, and it's margins have shrunk, slightly, each year for about 4 years straight.
