Maybe it is rushed, I don't know, but the storage space and battery life thing really doesn't bother me.
The Surface is meant to be a nearly fully featured computer with tablet features. I can get work done faster on real Office software than I can with tablet-optimized software and keyboards (especially for things like Excel). USB is still huge particularly for work.
The storage space is being eaten up to a large extent by a recovery partition and a more fully featured operating system. Yes, it'd be nice to have a more streamlined OS, but basically Microsoft is just filling up the space as it ships and it's up to the user to just delete it and figure out another way to have the recovery available.
I have an iPad and really like it for some things, but still can't get rid of my laptop completely. For my next laptop I'll seriously consider the Surface though more likely I'll opt for a more traditional laptop with a touchscreen.
I'm still using my iPad 2, and once in a while wish I had a retina display, but that alone isn't enough to get me to upgrade. I'd really like Apple to open up the file system or put out some kind of hybrid OS X/iOS platform.
