Maybe this news is not really news to the experts here, but maybe a few here are like me and had no idea that the IRS never sends emails or texts to people

This has nothing to do with taxes and what the IRS's policies are. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever click-through on any unsolicited e-mail, and be very careful even when dealing with businesses you have a relationship with. Always safer to go through the website, but at least take a look at where an e-mail link is going to take you by hovering over it. If you see it's a website in Burkina Faso you might want to skip it.
