I bought ATN in Nov. 08. It merged and became ATLS in Sept. 09. It appears as a sell with a short term gain even though I still own the stock but with a different name. Will I have to pay a capital gains tax on this transaction? Worse yet, will I have to pay a short term capital gains tax? Also, I was not aware of the sell and thought the shares were moved ATN to ATLS, so I sold some shares in Dec. thinking it would be a long term sale. It was classified as a short term sale because the company merged in Sept. of 09. Will I have to pay a short term capital gains tax on this transaction?Thank you for any responsepuphat
