I typically use the threaded reading mode while checking out the new posts in my favourite boards on the Fool. It seems like you can miss messages when you use threaded mode. Based on what I know of how the last read counter works this is what happens:- I am reading 'thread y.'- Before I finish reading 'thread y' a message is added to 'thread x', which I have just finished reading.- Also before I finish reading 'thread y' a new message is added to 'thread y.' This new message has a higher message number than the new message added to 'thread x.'- I continue reading 'thread y' and my last message read counter is set to the newly added message. I never see the new message in 'thread x' because I have already gone past it in my reading and its newest message number is lower than mine.Assuming that this is the correct analysis of the situation, can something be done to fix this? I have a few suggestions:- Keep track of each message read individually. This has already been suggested but seems like it would involve way too much data to be kept.- Keep a message counter for each thread. This would still have a lot of overhead though.- Set the last read counter by what is current when a board is entered, rather than when a message is read. Any new messages posted while I am reading will get viewed again, however, that number should be small.I know I could just read unthreaded, but that doesn't really seem very friendly to me.
