Might happen. Although there appears to be much more to the human brain than raw computing power. Might take a while for computers to mimic things such as intuition, ambition, imagination, and appreciation of beauty.

I think that's the whole point of Singularity. Computers can already multiply and calculators a zillion time faster than humans. What they are less able to do to do is make parallel processes that include associations, indirect recall and what not that human are so much superior in currently.

When Singarity arrives in 20 years or so(remember Moores Law of doubling every 18 momths)the computer can do stuff that even surpasses current brains. And beyond the 20 years - in possibly 40 years, the basic computer will have the power of 6 billion brains. Times are a changing. The basic premise behind this is that technology advances in a geometric power not linearly which most people assume. There are tremendous changes ahead of us in the next 20 years.
