Ikeep seeing securites dessignated MIPS, TOPS Etc. in the WSJ. Some interest rates look quite attractive with rwetuns in the 8-9% range

I know that these are something like peferred stocks.

But what are the differences? I have about 40% of my portfolio in fixd income and I am tryingto get decent returns with reasonable safety.

Where can I get more info on these?

Any other ideas?
