MEXICO CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2001--Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: ASR; BMV: ASUR) (ASUR), the Mexican airport operator of Cancun International Airport and eight other airports in the southeast region of Mexico, today confirmed that construction of the shopping center at the Cancun Airport is progressing on schedule.

The shopping center is expected to open in the third quarter 2001, as previously announced. Frantz Guns, CEO of ASUR, said: "Now that the retail business concession has been awarded, all major building blocks of our commercial development plan are in place or in their final stages of negotiation." Last week, ASUR announced that the consortium formed by Spain's Aldeasa S.A. and Brazil's Brasif was given the retail concession for the Company's three largest airports, which includes the shopping center at the International terminal at Cancun airport. On December of last year, Controladora Mera, S.A. de C.V. was awarded the food and beverage concession for the same three airports. The winner of the convenience store concession, the last piece of ASUR's commercial development plan, is expected to be announced shortly. "Works on the Cancun shopping center continue to make progress. In fact, following the opening of the new seating area in January, we handed over to Mera the food and beverage units last week, which are already being fitted by them," continued Mr. Guns. "We expect to be handing over to Aldeasa and Brasif, our retail partners for the International terminal, their units, in line with our original schedule." The new Cancun shopping center is situated within the airport's International terminal. Retail units operated by ASUR's other duty-free partner, Weitnauer, remain under their existing long-term contract. ASUR is proceeding legally against some of the operators of the pre-existing retail stores whose leases have expired and are resisting to vacate their premises.
