We're in the process of weeding through the first round of applications for a full time position. I cannot stress this enough:

Check, double check and have someone else with "fresh eyes" look over your resume, cover letter and application before you hit submit to apply for a position with any company.

So far today we have had applications with incomplete dates for work history, we had a cover letter from someone in another country who didn't realize where our office is located, and we got a resume that stated the reason the person wanted to change jobs was to be closer to home. The problem with that? They are currently working in the same city where we are located. They want a job closer to home, but home is just over 60 miles from here.

Needless to say, the first round of reviews have eliminated these people from consideration. If any of them had reviewed their submissions they could have made those changes and might still be under consideration.
