Hi:

I am a first time homebuyer, looking for single family detached home in and around Livonia, MI with a value of $180,000.

I am not an US citizen or a permanent resident alien. I am working in US on a work visa known as H-1B. This visa has a validity of 6 years and I have already used up 3 years of the total 6-year period. So I have around 3 years of validity left in my visa. I am supposed to apply for permanent residency, before the visa expires. I have already taken the step of applying for permanent residency.

The only person that I can put as a co-borrower is my wife and she is also working on H-1B visa with 3 years of validity left in her visa.

Assuming that financially we are capable of getting a loan in the range of $180,000, do you think our visa status in US would prevent us from getting a mortgage?

Thanks much,
Cherian.
