Most of those CFLs come with warnings NOT to use in enclosed fixtures.

I"m waiting for the first fires and million dollar lawsuits to emerge.

I had a Panasonic ring type fluorescent 12 years ago...replacement for a 100w bulb in a table lamp.....one night I came home, and the light was on a timer. THe entire front half of the house stunk.....it was the bulb that had heated up and fried the electronics...it was blackened...fortunately no fire......but it could have been, and I wasn't home while it happened....

As to using CFLs in enclosed fixtures -

As we learned in college....RTFI.. Read the Frigging instructions.
