Tonight as I drove home from work, listening to the news and President George W. Bush's address to our nation, I saw a car with a sunroof, wide open, and through it the vehicle's passenger holding up a full size American flag, flying it proudly as they drove. It was all I could do to catch up with that car, give them a honk-honk and a thumbs up. And I just burst into tears. My tears are for the thousands of people who have died in this catastrophe. My tears are for their families who will never see them again. My tears are because of what we may be forced to do on account of the evil that some men do.But through all of that, I knew we are strong and will be strong. We will do what it takes. And the world has seen this evil and they will be with us. Osama Bin Laden made the same mistake today that the Japanese made in 1941. (Preliminary evidence is now pointing to him as the perpetrator.) He has underestimated our strength and our resolve to see goodness prevail. I think, I hope, he has awakened the sleeping tiger and that the men and women of this country will rise to the occasion. It is up to each one of you. We are that bundle of sticks, the fasces, that the Romans had. It is easy to break one stick, but not so easy to break the bundle.CCSand
