IMAX today commented that first quarter 2012 box office through February 12, 2012, was approximately $55 million, compared to approximately $38 million in the prior year period. First quarter box office to date was primarily driven by Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which has grossed $27.5 million in the first quarter (and nearly $70 million worldwide to date), $11.5 million from Underworld: Awakening, $8.7 million from Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and $3.7 million for the Chinese film Flying Swords of Dragon Gate ($10 million cumulative box office to date).http://www.imax.com/corporate/investors/I guess the story I posted earier that suggested that IMAX was hurting because people were not paying higher ticket prices was not true. Yes, price per seat sold industry-wide is lower. IMAX is not the cause of that. This bodes well for the upcoming earnings release.Waiting for Hunger Games...W.D.
