MusicMan turned 21 yesterday and I was here to help him celebrate as was his sister and brother in law. He only knew I would be here(and yes, he asked me to be). Whoosh That’s the sound of the kids’ childhoods rushing by.

First – the celebration. My daughter and I flew into KC from opposite directions and then drove together to Columbia. That was a treat because I haven’t seen her since the end of July. Her husband(recently back from Kuwait) was visiting family in another part of MO and was meeting us in Columbia. She called MM to wish him a happy birthday which would be what she would do if she wasn’t going to be there. We got there early enough to stop by and see him before lacrosse practice. Fun surprise #1 – his sister. Then we headed to the hotel to meet her husband. We got to the brewpub early so when MM got there with his friends – fun surprise #2 –his brother in law(they bonded early in their relationship). So dinner and some adult beverages with friends and then on to the first bar.

Now I don’t know when this tradition started but there’s a 21 shot thing. And, yes I bought him one from the list. There were a number whose name I would not speak but Misdemeanor was the one I bought – seemed fitting. After that and cake, his table was full and more friends seemed to appear so I left. I think SS & husband lasted until sometime after midnight. Since I had lunch with him today, I know he survived(and seemed to have had a good time. sigh - the sigh of relief – he made it to 21.

While there are a few things I might buff up, all in all, he’s turned out well. Also as of yesterday, he’s the executor and responsible decision maker if my husband and I both die. This was decided by the 3 kids and we went with their decision.

One more college bill and one more semester after this one ;)
