My cardiologist's office now require a cc number be given when making an appointment for an echocardiogram, as there's a $150 charge for a missed appointment or cancelled/rescheduled appointment if notification is less than 24 hours before the appointment.

I don't know if their general problem was non-payment of bills, or if they just had too many patients missing tests or cancelling at the last minute. Since their main patient-base are elderly, you also get with that some who are increasing in forgetfulness, and/or those who need someone else to take them to their appointments (thus 2 people have to remember).

It does feel a bit like one's getting somewhat punished for the past behavior of others. On the other hand, filling an open echogram appointment because someone cancelled probably isn't as easy as say a hairdresser having someone cancel on them and then accepting a walk-in.
