That is $1800+/year in gas savings. Electric cost goes up $500-$600/yr, so the *net* savings is $1200-$1300/year for fuel.

And if you include electricity costing the equivalent of ~$1/gal

Price way too high for electricity. Probably closer to 25-35 cents/gal. Spending zero for gas means less miles driven--but that is the concept behind the Volt's use of electricity and gas to power the vehicle.
