My experience with Merril Lynch suggests incompetence is common around there. I wouldn't bet on them

Actually, I never felt that way. I just thought they were too high-end on the commission schedule to be my broker.

But they do make money.

And while I don't own stock in them, or any broker, with the bonds it's more of a pass-fail test: Will they, or won't they, cover their debt service? And I really don't doubt they will - at least, for here and now.

As long as the answer is yes, then I worry about if or how their bonds fit my portfolio.
