My girlfriend is currently applying to schools to get her PhD in education (she's a teacher). I've told her, and she is well aware, that it wouldn't really giver her any financial advantage. I think in her district a PhD gets 2-3000 per year more than a masters (what she currently has). From the cost of the places she's applying, she'll break even in about 20 years. I guess as long as some people believe that one can't put a price on education, other people will be happy to...
