My girlfriend needs to get student loans for her final semester. She knows that when she started school her family's expected contribution was more than tuition, and she wasn't eligable for any non-loan aid. My question is this: Can she even get any sort of federal loans (Stafford, subsidized or not) or should we simply look for the cheapest private student loans available?

What does your girlfriend's financial aid office say? If she is eligible for government loans, they should be able to tell her. If she or her parents are not eligble for government loans, then she is probably stuck with getting a private loan. Her school may make private loans, or she may need to get one from a bank.

Any links to a student loan board would be appreciated.
