As some of you may remember, I had a bike crash back in July (owing to a car attempting a U-turn on a blind curve on a hill). It put me out of action for 5 months. But I am now back on the road on my new Felt Z-5 bike, which I like a lot.

The bike on which I crashed was my TT bike (Cervelo P2). It's been repaired (bent crank, scuffed bar tape ... not too bad), but at age 64 I'm feeling a bit vulnerable on busy roads with it -- low profile, finicky handling, weight way over the handlebars, etc.

So I am hoping that a road bike with relaxed geometry -- what some makers are billing as "gran fondo" models -- will fill the bill for long training rides.
