My parents are millionaires. I hope they spend their money to assure themselves a healthy and enjoyable retirement, and to provide any assistance they may need as they age. I do not care if I get any of their money, and am planning my life as if I will not. It is their money, not mine. Thinking otherwise is being an entitled snot.

I knew from a very early age that my parents were loving, hard-working, patriotic folks, but they didn't have much money. We lived well enough. I had everything I truly needed, plus a few of the things I wanted. My parents helped me and my two brothers through college. But, I always knew that there would be no inheritances, and that whatever my wife and I might accumulate during our adult years would be all there would be for our family. When my dad died at 65, I was shocked to see how little they had in terms of money. No life insurance, a paid off house that was worth about $50K at the time, plus $20K in the bank. My brother and I knew that we would have to help our mother out until her death, and it was our pleasure to do so. My parents gave everything to family, meanining their children. One died right after college, and the other two of us went on to become somewhat successful at our chosen professions. My mother died with a zero balance in the bank, but she and my dad had much more than money could buy.
