My personal observation (I do not own one yet) is the 1080 is better not because of the 1080p, but because of the software/hardware in the set. These sets do a better job or "upgrading" SD signals then the 720 sets. If you will never see anything on your set that is not HD, then you may want to consider the less expensive technology.If you want to see for yourself, go to the store and insist they hook up an SD signal to each set you are considering. They like to use DVDs because that is the best signal.GordonAtlanta
