My personal physician takes unused prescription drugs for redistribution to needy patients. However, it is done quietly and behind closed doors as officially it is not permitted.

Keep everything in their original containers, pack it all into a plain sack, and take it to your physician or the prescribing physician. Don't make it obvious to the whole office what is going on, but behind closed doors, show him your collection and offer it if he wants to make use of it for someone.

You may wish to separate anything that is near expiration date and give that to him in a separate sack for disposal if you wish. That kind of thing gets thrown into special sealed trash containers. All doctor's offices have these containers and I would expect they'll know what to do with expired med's for you.

My sincere sympathy on your loss and thank you on behalf of those needy patients you will be helping. Medication costs keep too many people undermedicated when they are really ill.
