My wife doesn't work now, but could work if needed.

My FIL retired with a good pension prior to SS age and took up working at Starbucks part-time; mostly for the coffee. The silver lining for you with a place like Starbucks is the fact that they give medical benefits to their part-time workers. He makes something like $9.00 an hour (midwest) or about $720 gross a month. He even does the ESOP.

MY MIL, also retired in the same scenario, does some consultion from home at the rate of $20 an hour for about 8k a year.

They don't need the benefits or the money but it does help to pay for their vacations.
