I have read Atkins and others. I get the impression that you are still quite ignorant in the area low carb eating philosophies.

I don't follow "the so-called Atkins Diet plan". I basically started eliminating suagars and starches because I worked a sedentary job and even weight lifting at the gym was not making the difference that it had just 6-7 years before.

I gave up my morning and afternoon "coffee break" Dr. Peppers. I stopped eating pizza. All my life I had made a breakfast of 2 bowls of Special K. I switched to eggs. I ate carbs with color. I never counted carbs, calories, or anything else and was never starving as I had been nine years ago doing low-fat and lifting weights.

I know that protein and fats are essential and carbs are not. That doesn't mean they don't have beneficial uses and I am certainly using them more intelligently to get the hormonal resposes I want when I need them rather than when I used to "shove down *my* gullet" any and everything as your describe in your cartoon.

"Carbohydrates are needed by the body--what's so healthy about shunning a whole food group?"

Explain in what way carbs are needed by the body and why you think they are being completely eliminated by anyone. In your post it is clear that you are selective about what carbs your "needy" body gets. I suspect you shun the whole "food group" of junk carbs. How can you claim to be "balanced"? Perhaps you are really a closet Atkins freak posing as an idiot provocatuer for your own amusement...
