Nancy, I'm so very sorry to hear this. I think they're going to be kicking themselves by the afternoon of the first day you don't work.

But you are wonderful, you are a super hard worker and really skilled and on top of things, and I want you to do three things ASAP:

1) send me your resume through SEC. I have friends in Boston and I'm not afraid to use them.

2) Are you on LinkedIn? If so, I am going to friend you. If not, set up your LinkedIn page, and friend me. I want you to work your network and I am part of that.

3) Let your boss know that if they need help, you can work for them on a contractor basis, so long as you're available. And make sure your contractor rates are at least 50% more than your current hourly rate. When they regret this--and they will, very soon--they will want a way to get you back.

Having the option of hiring you as a contractor will let them save face when they want you back, and you can keep looking for a job and maybe--maybe! even get another job and have to tell them, "Oh, no, I'm sorry, I've gotten an offer for full-time employment elsewhere, I'm no longer available." And then they'd have to be in a bidding war for you! I fully believe this is a possibility, because you're awesome and they're going to start kicking themselves *soon*.

Be really gentle with yourself, this is hard news to get, and you've been through so much this year. Hugs and support and please don't disappear on us.

--Booa (with much love and good thoughts for you)
