>> The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Atlanta Braves 2 to 1 tonight in Pittsburgh, meaning the Washington Nationals have clinched their first National League East title since moving to D.C. from Montreal in 2005.

It'll be the first playoff appearance for a Washington baseball team since 1933. <<

Woohoo! And sigh - I wish GF were here to enjoy the news.

Congrats arrete, that is really awesome. You know, I've been "somewhate" rooting for the Nationals because of Strasburg and Bryce Harper. Just hope that keeping Strasburg out is not going to hurt the Nat's in the playoffs.

Good luck in playoffs. The Texas Rangers are trying to clinch their division tonight against the Oakland A's.

And earlier the Pittsburgh Pirates lost their 82nd game this season and guaranteed their 20th straight losing season - a North American professional sports record.

Beat 'em Bucs! <g> Good thing Roberto Clemente has been dead for almost 40 years.

One of the few records for futility not held by the Detroit Lions.

The thing is when I grew up in the 1960s, the Pirates were always a competitive baseball team. It's the ownership and the fans. The owners are making a profit even with losing teams and fans keep going to PNC Park to watch a losing product.
