He brings to this new position an exemplary track record as a principal architect of the constituent NBC and Snap businesses that will form NBC Internet Inc. together with XOOM.com," said Kitze. "Edmond has done a remarkable job growing Snap.com and leading it into the broadband arena, and is just the right person to help guide NBCi into the next century." On May 10, 1999, NBC, XOOM.com and CNET announced that NBC will merge several of its key Internet assets with XOOM.com and Snap.com to form one of the first publicly traded Internet companies combining these services in a strategic relationship with a major broadcast television network, subject to approval by stockholders of XOOM.com and other customary conditions. The new company, to be called NBC Internet (NBCi), will use Snap.com as its umbrella consumer brand, integrating broadcast, portal, and e-commerce services. As President and COO of the proposed NBC Internet Inc., Sanctis will be responsible for the overall operation and management of the venture, supervising the company's product, technology, business development, broadband, sales, marketing, and human resources divisions. Under his direction, Snap.com became the fastest-growing major Internet portal from July 1998 to July 1999 and one of the first Internet portal companies to launch a multimedia portal service for broadband and other high-speed Internet users. Prior to joining Snap.com, Sanctis was Senior Vice President and General Manager, NBC Digital Productions, where he launched the division and oversaw all phases of content development and production, marketing, technology operations and advertising sales for the Internet, enhanced broadcasting and other interactive platforms. Sanctis has an extensive background in broadcasting and interactive media, and helped launch MSNBC during his tenure at NBC, as well as initiatives with Intel, WebTV, Wink and others. Sanctis first joined NBC as a Management Associate, where he helped develop plans for the reorganization of NBC Entertainment around a team-based structure. Prior to working at NBC, Sanctis was a Communications Associate for Sony USA. He also worked as a television reporter for several television stations, including KVUE-TV in Texas, WTOC in Georgia and WFMJ-TV in Ohio, where he was the winner of the Ohio Associated Press Best Investigative Reporting Award. Sanctis received an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York City and is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Journalism. He lives in the San Francisco Bay area, with his wife, Shelly, and their children.
