RCTN (Rec.Crafts.Textiles.Needlework) newsgroup was a truly wonderful group of stitchers at the beginning of the century, but it is now a sad shadow of itself.

Can anyone point me to a similar forum/board that is active? I really miss all the stitching chatter and the tips on new mystery books.

If you knit/crochet/spin then Ravelry probably has a board that covers your other crafting hobbies. http://www.ravelry.com . Otherwise, one of the podcasts* I listen to mentions a website called "SeamedUp": http://seamedup.com/ . They usually have discussion boards.
