Never thought I'd find this discussion on Motley Fool!

I have been wearing a hard plastic splint at night for about ten years, and it has helped preserve my teeth from bruxism but my headaches persist. Recently it got to an all-time high, with tooth sensitivity, ear pain, and pains all over my head to the point where I was sure I had a brain tumor.

My dentist suggested no special daytime splint or other occlusional apparatus to help my bite, although I am sure this would help. I don't know where to get something like that.

But a doctor at my HMO clinic to whom I turned in a moment of need did prescribe something I had never heard of before: Baclofen. This is a drug that evidently prevents or relieves muscle spasms, and it is actually working! I am currently taking 5mg before bedtime but I am going to see if the doctor will double my dose and let me take another 5mg in the morning, because I have a sneaking suspicion that would be the optimal dosage for me. Baclofen is not normally prescribed for TMJ, I'm told, and I'm a bit weirded out by the long-term effects and the whole idea, any input?
