I just learned that Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) will be taking delivery of 75 CS-100, and possibly CS-300, aircraft from Canadian manufacturer Bombardier (TSX: BBD.A, BBD.B; NASDAQ: BDRBF) beginning next year. These models apparently are considerably more fuel-efficient than any other aircraft of comparable size. I presume that they will replace the DC-9's and MD-80's that Delta inherited from Northwest in Delta's fleet.

The new aircraft have an operational range of 3500 miles, which is long enough to fly coast to coast in the continental United States or even from various East Coast gateways to the British Isles or even to some countries on the European continent. As such, it could be transformative!
