I ran across MXWL in Robert Loest's online diary. (He runs a couple of funds, and is unique in that he writes almost daily about what he's doing (so far, not all that well)). Recently, he mentioned MXWL and its ultracapacitors, which are new to me. (The last time I looked, a 2500 uF capacitor was about as big as they get. Today, it's 2500 F in about the same size can.)He's at www.ipsmillennium.com/strategies.html Look for March 12, 2001. Anyway, the question is, does Maxwell hold basic patents on these things? I searched delphion, and it looks like the patents are spread out over a lot of companies. Does Maxwell have the edge in making/selling these caps, and is there any serious competition? I did find reference to a Korean company, NESS, that makes what seems to be a comparable cap.
